Angelica Monje Torrez
Contralto
As a 17-year-old contralto, Angelica Monje Torrez was chosen to record the world premiere of 18th century baroque music from La Plata in the Bolivian Baroque series, later nominated for a BBC Music Magazine award and a Gramophone CD of the Month.
She then travelled to Europe to specialize in Baroque opera at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Rosa Dominguez; and then in classical opera in the USA with Christine Donahue and Dr Rob Holden.
Angelica has appeared as Messaggiera in Monteverdi’s Orfeo and as Ottavia in L’Incoronazione di Poppea under the direction of Rene Jacobs, as well as Ozias in Vivaldi’s Juditha Triumphans under Andrea Marcon.
She has also sung under the direction of Hervé Niquet, Jordi Savall and Jean Claude Malgoire.
Her future engagements include a gala performance of French music with the Jenaer Philharmonie and the mezzo part in a historically informed interpretation of Verdi’s Requiem with the Cochabamba Philharmonic. Angelica Monje Torrez continues her vocal development with Siegfried Gohritz in Weimar.
