Born in Perm, Russia, Maria Shabashova began her musical training at the age of five. She attended the F. Chopin State College in Moscow, where she studied piano with Irina Gabrielova.

She went on to study harpsichord with Olga Filippova, fortepiano with Jury Martunov, and piano with Sergey Glavatskikh at the P.I. Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow.
