Julie Catherine Eggli is a Swiss mezzo-soprano. She is currently training for a Concert Master’s degree in the class of Julian Prégardien at the University of Music and Theatre in Munich. As much passionate about early music, French melody as contemporary music, she sings an eclectic and unexpected repertoire.

After a pre-HEM course with Stephan MacLeod in Lausanne, Julie Catherine moved to Munich and completed her Bachelor’s degree in the class of Christiane Iven. During her last year, she studied in Erasmus at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in the class of Valérie Guillorit. She also benefits from the teaching of Bénédicte Tauran. Whether in Switzerland, France or Germany, the mezzo-soprano regularly performs on various stages. She has been heard as a soloist with the Ensemble Consonances under the direction of Mikhaïl Zhuravlev and with the Orchestre Romand des Jeunes Professionnels. She regularly collaborates with student composers from the Munich University of Music and Theatre. In addition, she has taken part in numerous ensemble projects and is a member of the LauschWerk Ensemble under the direction of Martin Steidler

Also fascinated by the theatre, Julie Catherine enjoys performing on stage and has appeared in several contemporary creations, notably in Hans-Henning Ginzel’s opera Der Club der Metzger, during the liminal space project at the Münchner Biennale or in Caio de Azevedo’s music theatre FINITA. She also participated in a staging of Leoš Janacek’s Diary of a Missing Person at the Theaterakademie August Everding.

The twenty-two year old mezzo-soprano sang Pierre Boulez’s The Hammer without a Master in 2019 as part of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra’s chamber concerts under the direction of Joseph Bastian. In 2018 she was invited to the MelosLogos Lieder Festival in Weimar. In Switzerland, she was heard in 2019 with Stéphane de May in a programme of French melodies. In the framework of several festivals, she has developed her own projects, combining texts and music. Julie Catherine is particularly attached to literature and sings without artifice or detours, driven by a deep desire for sobriety and transparency.

She is also a member of a group of musicians who have been working on a number of projects.
