Rubén Castañeda Hernández
Contrebasse baroque
Born in Mexico City, Rubén Castañeda Hernández began his studies in 2010 at the National School of Music. Eager to pursue a professional career, he decided to continue his studies in Italy at the Luigi Boccherini Music Institute in Lucca, where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in 2016. The same year he made his debut as a soloist, accompanied by the I Solisti Veneti orchestra, under the direction of conductor Claudio Scimone.
In 2017, he entered the HEM in Geneva, where he obtained a Master’s degree in performance two years later. Motivated by teaching and pedagogy, he continued his training at the same institution where, in 2022, he received a diploma in specialized pedagogy. Since September 2022, he has been a full professor in the double bass class at CMTSE in Mies, Switzerland.
Today, he lives in Geneva, where he performs with various ensembles and orchestras in the region, including the microcosmes ensemble conducted by violinist Franck-Edouard Bernard, the Geneva Camerata conducted by David Greilsammer, the Nikan-Ompa ensemble conducted by tenor Emilio Gutierrez Tlacaelel, the Ensemble Baroque du Léman and the contemporary music ensemble Vortex.
In the Gers region of France, Rubén Castañeda Hernández is actively collaborating as a soloist with the early music ensemble Les Furiosi Galantes, conducted by countertenor Luan Goes. In July 2022, they made their first recording, Dolce Pupilo, with Italian contralto Sonia Prina, which led to their first concert at La Seine Musicale in Paris in May 2023.
